Vichy Neovadiol product line

A few weeks ago, I received a Vichy kit,  free from Chickadvisor,  to try out and review. The kit has three products from the new Neovadiol line of skin care formulate especially for women in menopause and beyond. I am far beyond so I was very excited to try this out. While my skin is normal to dry, I relocated a year ago to Alberta and the climate here is dry that my skin needs extra love and attention to stay hydrated.

1. Vichy Pureté Thermale 3-in-1 One Step Cleanser for sensitive skin  200ml  SRP $14.99 at my local London Drugs

This 3-in-1 formula is a Cleansing Milk, Toner, an Eye Makeup remover. It is a light, milky lotion in an “easy to dispense in the right amount” tube.

First – I have tried many products that state “for sensitive skin/eyes” and when I have tried them as an eye makeup remover they burn my eyes or leave them feeling sensitive to light after use. Not the case with this clenaser! I was so very pleased at how well it worked to remove eye makeup (on soft cotton pad or suds up with water). I definitely give it a resounding TWO THUMBS UP as an eye makeup remover.

As a cleanser, I found it effective in removing makeup, although I don’t wear full coverage foundation in the summer; usually beauty balm or a water based makeup. It suds up nicely and product card said it did not need to be rinsed off after use, but I couldn’t figure out how to leave all the creamy suds on my face on continue my routine. I was not easy to rinse off without the use of a damp facecloth, so I would recommend that as part of the final rinse process.  I did love the way it left my face feeling; not dried out from cleansing, but hydrated and soft and silky.

This cleanser does have a very strong scent that may not be for everyone. Usually a strong scent is an immediate negative for me – but oddly I like the scent of this. It reminds me of a fragrance from my teenage years, something Love’s Baby soft like with a touch of laundry detergent and clean fresh linen.

2. Vichy Neovadiol Magistral Elixir 30ml SRP $59.oo at London Drugs

This product has a dropper with pushtop, making it very easy to control the amount dispensed, which I love.

It is listed as regenerating concentrate with nourishing oils (10% omega3-6-9+y-oryzanol). It promises to smooth and replump skin, restore radiance and feel comfortable.

During the aging process, a decline in hormone production causes skin to lose up to 57% of its essential lipids, which play a vital role in maintaining skin elasticity and suppleness. This lipid loss can result in facial sagging, deepening of wrinkles and loss of definition. Neovadiol Elixir helps replenish essential lipids lost with age, leaving skin nourished, glowing and visibly re-plumped.

The product packaging suggests it can be used in three different ways: as a revitalizing serum, mixed with a moisturizer it becomes a soothing balm, or by increasing the amount of drops used as a replumping hydrating mask. I used it as a serum in my testing.

I love the luxe look of the packaging – the oil glistens and sparkles in the bottle, and dispensing dropper makes it so very easy and foolproof to use.

It is touted as a dry touch oil – which it is. It is a very fine oil and absorbs and dries on the skin very quickly leaving more of a silky silicone feeling than an oily feeling. It is not sticky or greasy. It leaves my skin with a truly radiant youthful looking glow.I apply it in the morning and wear under makeup, and also use it in the evening before night cream routine. I have found I love the “radiant glow’ it provides so much I have even worn it alone before a quick trip out to the grocery store on a natural look day. It just really leaves my skin feeling so silky and soft.

The only negative – if it weren’t for the strong perfumy scent I would be head over heels in love with this product. It unfortunately has a strong floral scent that lingers at least 10 minutes before dispersing. I prefer skincare to have a fresh citrus scent or herbal earthy scent – just my personal preference.

Overall however – yes this is a product I have fallen in love with and already have repurchased during Vichy’s “Buy 2, get the 3rd free” event last weekend.

3. Vichy Neovadiol Magistral Day Cream 50ml SRP $56.00 at London Drugs

This rich thick cream promises to fight against nutrition and comfort of the skin as well as its accentuated loss of skin density and structure. It is enriched with a trio of oils (safflower seed oil, rice bran oil and shea butter)- With Pro-Xylane and Proteic Gf, and with soothing and softening Vichy Thermal Spa Water. Paraben-free.

While this cream still has a floral scent it is softer than the elixir; almost softened with a clean fresh scent to balance it out.

This cream felt more like a balm after application; it left my skin feeling supple, smooth and prepped for makeup similar to a primer. It absorbed quickly and a little goes a long way. I like that a small application spatula was provided – nice touch – to keep fingers and contamination out of the jar.

I used the cream for a few weeks as both a day cream AND night cream, to fully get a sense of effectiveness. I do love it and found it left my skin feeling and looking more plump,  hydrated, and youthful. I love it so much I have already repurchased, also picking up the Neovadiol Night Cream to try out.

Overall thoughts – all three products are 2 thumbs up 5 Star products that I will continue to use in my daily routine.

Thanks, Chickadvisor, for introducing me to some new holy grail skin care products and all for FREE   #gotitfree #VichyWorksForMe #chickadvisor

Jule’s Wellness April 2016 Unboxing

Jules Wellness is a monthly subscription box full of hand selected health-conscious goodies, full-size products right from their Canadian online boutique. It costs me $34.32/month + GST (shipping is incl in price) = $36.04 Cdn

The April Wellness box’s theme is Anti-Inflammatory choices to heal from inside out; this aligns with spring and renewal. Inflammation is the body’s natural response to healing however it also contributes to many diseases, ailments and pains through; foods lacking nutrition combined with living a stressful and inactive lifestyle can cause an overactivity to our immune systems. Being more mindful and making better choices and lifestyle changes can reduce inflammation in your body. Is this ever right up my alley right now! Years of bad eating choices and a build up for stress, with a couch potato book-nerd lifestyle has certainly caused some issues! Look for a future Jules’ Wellness collaboration with author Julie Daniluk on this topic, launching a book called Meals that Heal Inflammation.

And how amazing is this box!! I love that it is covered in inspirational, motivational sayings such as: “Love Yourself First” “You are capable of amazing things” “sometimes you win, sometimes you learn” “start each day with a grateful heart” “make today really freaking amazing” “create a vision that makes you wanna jump out of bed in the morning”… I want to put it on my desk and read one every morning to give me a burst of love!

Younique haul and first impressions

I was fortunate to receive the Lucrative Moodstruck Minerals Lipgloss – in the shade Lovesick – free, by winning it in a contest run by Younique Presenter Shelley Stewart Boucher. I also received samples of Splurge cream shadow as well as some micro samples of Younique Skincare products. the two Moonstruck Mineral Pigments (matte) I purchased.

I was very excited to get to try out some of the Younique product line so that I could share my first impressions, but also to add these to my collection.

younique51. Younique Lucrative Moonstruck Minerals Lip Gloss 7ml shade: Lovesick

I like the packaging; I love lipglosses that come with a built in mirror on the package. This is such a convenience for applying throughout the day, especially at work or if out on the run doing errands, or on vacation lying in a beach chair – a girl’s gotta look good wherever she is! 🙂

The wand has a plastic doe-foot applicator that isn’t a sponge, more like a hard plastic little spoon covered in a suede/velvet material.I prefer this to a sponge as it allows you to better manage application, using a little or adding more than one swipe for more color.

younique6

The product isn’t very pigmented – it is a gloss, after all, not a liquid lipstick or lipstain. it provides a nice wash of color – soft to mid-tone pink/rose in the swatch picture above, depending on the number of swipes used – which will be nice for everyday wear during the day or as a gloss over lipstick at night. The shade will be perfect for spring/summer as well.

The gloss has a lot of shimmer to it; a very fine hint of sparkle. It isn’t sticky which I loved as sticky glosses are a pet peeve!  It actually felt more like a moisturizing balm which was a surprise. Ingredients include squaline, mineral oil and castor seed oil. It is not fruit or candy scented like some glosses – I couldn’t detect a scent at all Again, for me, this is a plus!

March minimadness Finale #67-86

#67 – CandleAbracadabra Blueberry Cobbler Bath Salts (etsy store) two stars

Blueberry scented Epsom salts were OK. Had a faint blueberry scent. Great for relaxing tired muscles; I just like my bath products to be a sensory and scent filled experience.

#68 – Sephora Pearl Mask, perfecting & brightening fiber mask (one use) one star

This was OK. Decent amount of serum, a cloth fiber mask. Not strongly scented. I have a holy grail mask that works magic after use (the MaskerAide masks) so it sets the bar high. This was relaxing but I didn’t notice any major benefits after using.

#48-49 – John Frieda Luxurious Volume Shampoo & Conditioner (foil pkt) two stars

I liked the scent; clean and fresh. It was an ok product, I got two uses out of it. I didn’t notice a marked difference in my hair though using this.

#50 – Neutrogena Clean normalizing shampoo 24ml  three stars

This was a hotel sample; I like Neutrogena shampoo as a refresher for my hair. It seems to clear away the product buildup so my hair can absorb moisture again and be refreshed.

2. MakersKit Kitchen Herb Garden DIY kit   Value $35

Skill level required for this kit is EASY – awesome! Everything needed to grow your own herbs -basil, thyme, and mint- is in the kit (seeds, compost, plastic plant pots and the wooden trough); all that is needed is the green thumb. I love that for every kit sold (including this one) MakersKit donates a school supply to public schools in the US. This feels good while being a practical and creative activity!  *code at end of review

3. ISH (I’m Smoking Hot) Contour Kit  Value $32

This is the debut product from Joey Maalouf’s new makeupline (a collab with FabFitFun). My palette came in the Light/Medium shade and has a golden highlighter with beautiful soft shimmer, a soft rosy blush in the perfect spring/summer shade for me (I can use it with a light touch, or build it up for more PoW at night), and a dark golden bronzer and light contour shade.  The palette itself is lightweight, cardboard, which I don’t mind as this makes it perfect for travelling, and has a magnetic closure. At first swatch the products seem to be very good – not too powdery, a light color payoff (which I prefer as it allows me more control to build if I want). This is a great addition to my makeup collection and I see it becoming a travel staple. Made in the US, it is Cruelty Free!

March product reviews

This is the first installment of a series of monthly reviews of products I have used up… did I love it – will I repurchase it? Did I hate it – and toss it away before using it up? or was it just meh.. used it and glad it’s gone?

I have separated these into sub-categories. I was surprised that many of them, though in different categories, are linked as “scented” items. I guess I do love scents; certain types of scents at least 🙂

1. Redken Color Extend Magnetics conditioner (1000ml) one star

IMG_2795This was mostly used up by my daughter; though we both color our hair and I tried this out while on vacation when I ran out of Devacurl.  My daughter has loved this for years. I, on the other hand, find it very perfumy scented. Preface this review with my own preferences: I love scents that are either 1. Clean and fresh; 2 Citrusy and fresh; or 3 Tropical. I also love a conditioner that is light (and doesn’t weigh down my fine curly hair) yet has a lot of “slip” to it – to detangle my curly knots, especially at the base of my head and if I have worn a pony tail for a couple of days. This conditioner unfortunately doesn’t deliver either for me.

2. L’Oreal Paris Preference Mousse REUSABLE permanent haircolor in shade 425 Pearly Dark Chocolate  five stars

IMG_2797Yes – I take issue with L’Oreal’s testing on animals, so having this as a HG item for me is painful. But I do love this product, and have in fact repurchased 2 packages to have on hand. It is very easy to use – the package contains two sets of GOOD gloves (by good I mean fit my small hands nicely yet are also long enough to cover my wrists, and  they are “tough” enough to be rinsed and reused without falling apart), the usual rich after-use conditioner, and the color itself which is truly dummy proof to use! It is one container only  – no mixing of products – and can be stored and reused which is perfect for me, as after first use it is mainly root-touchups that I need every 4-6 weeks or so, with a full color refresh every 3 months.

The application container is very easy to use, dispensing the product in an easy-to-apply foam. The color covers gray (yay!) and gives a nice rich shiny brown shade to my mousy medium brown hair, covering all gray well.
