Using up my sample stash – one product at a time!
#35 – Buxom Show some skin foundation in Silky Negli-Beige (foil packet)
This shade was a touch dark for me – would have been a better trial mid summer – so I had to mix it with a different foundation in a pale shade. This made it difficult to really determine how it performed, so it gets a 2 star -Good product, good sheer coverage that evened out my skin tone yet looked natural. Generous amount in the foil sample gave a few days of use. It was just OK for me
#36 #37 & 38 – Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Light Beige and Ivory and Hourglass Veil fluid makeup in No 0 Porcelain (0.3ml foil packets)
I am on the hunt for a holy grail one for summer. Though I liked this product, it isn’t “it” for me. Each packet had such a tiny sample to work with I blended two together – the light beige and the ivory – to get a good color match. It performed OK; applied smoothly, medium coverage, lasted well. It has SPF in it, and I am looking for one without as it irritates my eyes unfortunately. The Veil fluid makeup was good – creamy and thicker than its name would suggest, creamy application but dried down to a nice soft powdery matte finish, the porcelain shade was light on me so I used a bronzer afterwards. This also unfortunately seems to have sunscreen in it that irritates my eyes. Without the sunscreen issue these might have been a 4 star.
#39 – Ojon duo – Restorative lash treatment and Restorative mascara
These were OK Positives were that it didn’t have a chemical scent, and it applied nicely for a natural but better look. I liked the packaging – having 2 products in 1. It didn’t appear however to add volume or length, not did it unfortunately give any restorative benefits. I got this in a past Birchbox ; it was a good treatment and mascara but I wouldn’t search it out.
#40 & #41 – John Masters Organics Honey & Hibiscus restructuring Shampoo & Conditioner (foil packets 10ml each)
Generous amount of product for 3 uses. I received these free in the mail. I didn’t like the smell, nor did they do anything for my hair at all. I have dry curly hair and this weighed it down.
#42 – Curl Keeper leave-in conditioner (30ml).
I liked the light fruity scent. It was an OK product but I didn’t notice my hair becoming any softer or shinier. Maybe if I had tried a larger sample for longer there would have been longer term results. It is a Canadian product so I will keep it in mind when I can no longer find my preferred Deva Curl in Canada.
#43 & #44 – Smashbox Photo Finish foundation primer and Pore Minimizing Oil free primer (foil packets )
Smashbox primer was the first “primer” I tried years ago and remains a favorite to this day. You wouldn’t paint your wall without priming first right, so why not your face? It provides a nice, smooth base for makeup application, giving it a better overall finish and helps it last longer. The pore minimizer is new to the line – I do really like it and will try another sample before deciding if it becomes my new “go to” for under eye smoothing and pore coverage. So far, it gets 4 stars.
#45 – Lise Watier Teint Age Control Supreme foundation in Neutre (5ml)
Unfortunately this sample is a touch too dark for me at the moment so I am having to mix it with lighter foundations to use it, which skews my review sadly. Though the sample is small (5ml) it is a thicker foundation which goes a long way. Smooths on well, gives good coverage, no scent is a plus, lasts well through the day. Because it has anti-aging benefits and does appear to give a beautiful finish free of fine lines I would look into purchasing and trying a better shade match in future.
#46 – Make Up Forever HD Blush in shade 410 (foil sample)
I was initially hesitant to try this product – applying cream blushes felt a bit overwhelming and potentially messy. But the beautiful coral shade convinced me to give it a try and I am so very happy I did! I dot this on with my fingertips then blend with a stippling brush and it melts into my skin so softly and beautifully giving me a natural flush of color that lasts through the day. I will definitely look into buying the full size and trying out other shades in the lineup.
#47 – Tarte Rainforest of the Sea foundation in the shade Light Neutral (foil sample)
I already love this foundation and will test a few other shades before definitely purchasing a full size. It is “water infused”, glides on beautifully to dry down to a radiant finish, giving a soft brightness to sallow spring skin. It does dry down quickly so I had to apply quickly using a stippling brush (beauty blender didn’t seem to work well for application as it seeped up so much product – I used BB afterwards to blend). I love that it DOES contain SPF but in mineral, not chemical, form so it doesn’t irritate my eyes and will be perfect for summer wear! It gives great coverage – medium to full – and lasted perfectly throughout long days.
