Jule’s Wellness April 2016 Unboxing

Jules Wellness is a monthly subscription box full of hand selected health-conscious goodies, full-size products right from their Canadian online boutique. It costs me $34.32/month + GST (shipping is incl in price) = $36.04 Cdn

The April Wellness box’s theme is Anti-Inflammatory choices to heal from inside out; this aligns with spring and renewal. Inflammation is the body’s natural response to healing however it also contributes to many diseases, ailments and pains through; foods lacking nutrition combined with living a stressful and inactive lifestyle can cause an overactivity to our immune systems. Being more mindful and making better choices and lifestyle changes can reduce inflammation in your body. Is this ever right up my alley right now! Years of bad eating choices and a build up for stress, with a couch potato book-nerd lifestyle has certainly caused some issues! Look for a future Jules’ Wellness collaboration with author Julie Daniluk on this topic, launching a book called Meals that Heal Inflammation.

And how amazing is this box!! I love that it is covered in inspirational, motivational sayings such as: “Love Yourself First” “You are capable of amazing things” “sometimes you win, sometimes you learn” “start each day with a grateful heart” “make today really freaking amazing” “create a vision that makes you wanna jump out of bed in the morning”… I want to put it on my desk and read one every morning to give me a burst of love!

First look  inside the box…

1. Bragg raw unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar 473ml SRP $6.79 at well.ca

Apple Cider vinegar not only as anti-inflammatory benefits but also helps support a healthy immune system, manages weight and maintains healthy looking skin and hair. Braggs Organic Raw apple cider vinegar is never heated or filtered, it contains the important “Mother” – which occurs as molecules of protein connected in strand-like chains of proteins, enzymes and friendly bacteria.

This product can be used to flavor salads, dressings, veggies, sauces, pickling and canning. Its healthiest recommended use however is to add 1 tbsp. of the apple cider vinegar, and 1 tsp of raw honey to 1 cup of warm water for a healthy morning drink that will help increase energy levels and improve overall health.

I am going to give this a try – taking this to work with me in the morning in my travel mug and see how I feel after a couple of weeks! Will report back in a future blog 🙂

2. Cha’s Organic ground Turmeric 30gr SRP $3.75

One cool aspect of this product is the packaging – the box itself is handcrafted from recycled banana leaf paper by women belonging to an artisan collective in Sri Lnka.

Turmeric is deliciously fragrant and rich in curcumin and other phytonutrients. Cha’s spices are organic and grown and harvested with care from biodiverse small scale family-owned forest gardens; certified fair trade. This spice can be added to smoothies, salad dressings, eggs, soup or chili.

I am looking forward to trying this out (OK. I will come clean. My daughter is a wonderful cook and does most of the cooking, so she will be trying this out in some recipes and I will be benefitting from her generous and creative cooking skills)!

3. Dutchman’s Gold Raw Honey 500gr  SRP $8.49

This honey is in its natural crystallized form, which means you get to enjoy all of its original goodness, delicate floral source flavour, and beneficial enzymes. The benefits of it not being filtered is that it contains tiny bits of beeswax and bee pollen; like eating honey straight from the hive!

The honey is freshly bottled after extracting it from the hive; it has not been reheated or refiltered.  This is also a 100% Canadian product  – yay for Canadian bees!

4. NutraSea +D Fish Oil capsules 60 softgels SRP $29.99

Nutrisea+D offers a  balanced omega-3 supplement combined with the benefits of 1000IU of vitamin D, in a convenient softgel format. In addition to the maintenance of overall good health, cardiovascular health, and brain function, the added boost of vitamin-D promotes healthy bones and teeth. It’s also beneficial for the development of the brain, eyes, and nerves in children and adolescents. With its balanced ratio of 750mg EPA and 500mg DHA per dose, NutraSea is an easy way to get your daily recommended intake of omega-3 as well as 1000IU of natural vitamin D. These Fish Oil capsules will help promote overall general good health as well as strong bones and teeth.

My mother was a strong believer in fish oil; though she took it full strength liquid. I know I could never bring myself to go that route after too many forced teaspoons as a child, but these gel caps may be a good compromise!  For the “fish oil” it contains anchovies, sardines, and mackerel oil.

5. Lemon Lily organic & natural loose leaf tea – AnTea Inflammatory 100gr SRP $15

Lemon Lily is a Canadian tea company located in Toronto. They work with top tea estates and organic farms from around the world, creating some of the most exciting and delicious teas on the planet.  They are a Certified Organic Tea Company handcrafting and blending teas from more than 175 ingredients, all 100% natural and certified organic.

This tea blend includes honeybush, cinnamon, rosemary, burdock root, sage, turmeric, peppercorns, cloves, safflower and cayenne which explains the spicy warm scent. It reminds me more of a fall tea than something gearing up for spring, but I think this may go nicely in the evening sitting on the balcony with a book, warming and fighting inflammation from the inside.

6. Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts 2x15g sample packs SRP unkown

I have tried these before; we add them to our smoothies. These small packs will be perfect for travel or the office to sprinkle on cereal, salad or yogurt for an extra nutrition punch.

This product is made from the very best and most nutritious part of the hemp seed, the heart. It is packed with 10gr of plant-based protein and 10gr of omegas per 30gr serving, as well as digestible vitamins, minerals and fibre. It is a good source of thiamin, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, zinc and iron to name a few.

This was a SUPER HEAVY box this month and probably cost a lot to ship! It is an amazing collection of healthy choices to add to my daily diet and boost my overall health; an opportunity to try things I may not have taken the time or risked spending money on otherwise. I suspect more than a few could become integrated into daily routine.
