Younique haul and first impressions

I was fortunate to receive the Lucrative Moodstruck Minerals Lipgloss – in the shade Lovesick – free, by winning it in a contest run by Younique Presenter Shelley Stewart Boucher. I also received samples of Splurge cream shadow as well as some micro samples of Younique Skincare products. the two Moonstruck Mineral Pigments (matte) I purchased.

I was very excited to get to try out some of the Younique product line so that I could share my first impressions, but also to add these to my collection.

younique51. Younique Lucrative Moonstruck Minerals Lip Gloss 7ml shade: Lovesick

I like the packaging; I love lipglosses that come with a built in mirror on the package. This is such a convenience for applying throughout the day, especially at work or if out on the run doing errands, or on vacation lying in a beach chair – a girl’s gotta look good wherever she is! 🙂

The wand has a plastic doe-foot applicator that isn’t a sponge, more like a hard plastic little spoon covered in a suede/velvet material.I prefer this to a sponge as it allows you to better manage application, using a little or adding more than one swipe for more color.

The product isn’t very pigmented – it is a gloss, after all, not a liquid lipstick or lipstain. it provides a nice wash of color – soft to mid-tone pink/rose in the swatch picture above, depending on the number of swipes used – which will be nice for everyday wear during the day or as a gloss over lipstick at night. The shade will be perfect for spring/summer as well.

The gloss has a lot of shimmer to it; a very fine hint of sparkle. It isn’t sticky which I loved as sticky glosses are a pet peeve!  It actually felt more like a moisturizing balm which was a surprise. Ingredients include squaline, mineral oil and castor seed oil. It is not fruit or candy scented like some glosses – I couldn’t detect a scent at all Again, for me, this is a plus!

2 & 3 and 4 & 5. Younique Matte Mineral Eyeshadows 1.2g each

I received two shades. The one on the left is Tenacious – a beautiful warm milk chocolate brown – and the one on the right is Elegant – a soft yellow with slight green tint. Both are matte shades with no shimmer or sparkle. They are powdery soft and apply very smoothly. They are not very pigmented even over primer so if you are looking for a high pigment application, these may not be the shades for you. For me however, they are perfect as I like a very light natural neutral look during the day with a slight wash of color, no flash or shimmer.

The two matte shadows are the “wash of color” on the very left of the two shimmery creamy shades (reviewed below). Unfortunately not very visible in the swatch photo but you can tell a slight yellow/gold and chocolate brown shade there.

I also received a sample of two of the Splurge Cream Shadows in shades Elegant on the left (a champagne gold neutral shade) and the one on the right is Tenacious (a bronzy mid-brown shade with flecks of gold).

These are wonderfully opaque and shimmery shades. The product is a cream, but so light it feels more like a mixture of gel and mousse in texture. It applies like a cream (you can apply lightly for a wash of shimmery color or pat on with your cream eyeshadow for a pop of shimmery color) then dries down quickly to a silky powdery finish. You only need to use the tiniest bit, so this will go a long way, and it has great lasting power without creasing or migrating during the day.

I loved the samples I received so much that I placed an order for a full size in the shade Dainty – a soft greige/mauvey shade that will be a perfect spring/summer neutral eye look!

6 & 7 -Younique Illuminate Cleansers 3ml each

I received two microsamples of cleanser – two different types, one is called Clear and the other Clean. The Clear is for oily skin while the Clean is for dry/combo skin. Though I don’t have oily skin (well, sometimes in my tzone in the summer) it is supposed to be gentle enough for all skin types so I have only tried the Clear so far.

The Clear cleanser is a gray cream cleanser that looks like clay. A little bit – pea size amount – is enough for one use and it foams up nicely. It did a great job breaking down and removing makeup at day’s end, and giving a nice clean fresh feeling for morning cleanse. It contains Garden Chrysanthemum, Aloe Vera and Licorice Root to soothe and revive dull skin.

The Clear cleanser is a white cream, and contains ginkgo biloba and the purifying power of horse chestnut. It has a faint clean scent; nothing overpowering and feels rich as well. I am looking forward to testing this out once I finish the Clear. First impression is that both appear to be good cleansers; work well, no strong scents, fresh clean feel afterwards (not oily or drying). I will share full review thoughts once I finish both samples

younique38. Younique Uplift Eye Serum 1ml

This is an oil formula as opposed to a creamy serum. The full size bottle comes with a dropper, and only a few drops are needed. This microsample was sealed and needed to be “snipped” open with scissors – a good feature to ensure it is sealed and leakproof. I have only used it once so I can’t give a review yet on the results of the product. The packaging is difficult to dispense the oil formula with however; it pours out too easily and quickly making it a bit hard to manage. I decanted it into a different container with a dropper to use instead so I don’t’ lose product each time I open it. The oil/serum is a bit greasy and doesn’t’ absorb quickly so I will use it at night rather than in the morning. One pro is that it is scentless, as scents can be irritating to eyes if the oil/serum migrates.

younique29. Younique Diving Daily Moisturizer 3ml

This is a light yet rich creamy formula, appears to be scent-free though it does contain honeysuckle which I expected to give it a floral scent. I was happy with no floral scent! It also contains , Beta Fructan, and Highly Refined Triglyceride Oil.

The cream felt cooling upon application, which was smooth; it absorbed relatively quickly and did not leave a greasy feeling. After about 10 minutes it almost felt like my skin was plumper – hydrated and unlike some rich moisturizers, not tacky to the touch at all but so very smooth and soft! I will use this up for a couple more days before deciding if it is Holy Grail material, but upon first impression… I am impressed and really like it.

I will continue to use these products over the next couple of weeks and add an update footnote to this review once I have a better sense of how they truly performed

If you are interested in any of the Younique products, leave me a comment and I will forward you my Presenter (Younique product distributor)’s contact information to order.
